Case Study: Love Story Woven into Lehenga Choli

Few months ago our client from United Kingdom contacted us to make a customized chaniya choli for her wedding.

After having initial conversation with her we realized that this is going to be very challenging and intimidating project.

There is a new trend of weaving names and locations of very special events of your love live into your wedding dress, and she wanted to have name of bride and groom along with 5 important dates to be weaved on her lehenga 🙂

Once again our team took the challenge and here is the story of making a loving lehenga choli for our client from London.

In this article you will learn how client and our team go through the this wonderful journey.

Client Requirements for her Chaniya Choli

She wanted to have a dress inspired by following images.

It was required to be long choli like the right side image and metallic choli like left image. She draw the following illustration to explain.

And long tassles were required like following image she shared with us.

She wanted to have strings attached to back of her blouse like this image.

And finally, she required embedding her and her fiance’s name along with 5 dates which were important in their life.

Sample for fitting of Lehenga Choli

For each custom order for bridal and wedding lehenga choli we make sure to send a sample lehenga choli made in a plain fabric so that customer can try the fitting and send us feedback. This is very important step because there might be a mistake in taking measurements or our team could have understood things differently. But this trial outfit makes sure that final lengha choli is perfect fitting.

We sent one white lehenga choli to the customer and she promptly sent her feedback.

Fabric Dye

Along with trial Chania choli we also sent a sample of Net fabric dyed in 3 different shades so that she can pick the best shade. Usually, colors seen on computer appear different on different screens, therefore client might be visualizing color to be bright and we at our screen might be seeing it little dull therefore to avoid the disappointment of client we do this exercise. So far none of our customer has complained about colors.

Approval of floral fabric

We sent fabric samples along with lehenga choli for trial but floral fabric are usually fast sold, hence till we received the feedback the fabric that customer liked was sold out and hence we had to find other available designs in fabric shops. We sent few pictures to client for approval. It was back and forth for many days, and we sent some videos of fabric and also illustrated how it will appear after we place Net fabric on it. Finally she approved one of the fabric 🙂

Making Designs on Paper

Now fabric is dyed and feedback on measurements is received, our designers quickly start making embroidery design on paper and shared with customer. She was happy with these designs and quickly approved it.

The big question was how it will appear, how intricate it will be. Therefore we made few samples and shared images with her.

Embroidery or Handwork

The big question was how it will appear, how intricate it will be. Does she need embroidery, embellished it with zardosi, beads or only hand work. Of course all options could make difference in price.

Therefore we made few samples and shared images with her.

No embroidery onlu beads, zardosi and stones used.

She preferred the third image from above. This is going to take lot longer time because this has to be done by hands and its long manual work. As so much time was already spent in making samples and understanding requirements it was now time to accelerate making of the dress.

We sent following sample image and she was quite happy with it.

Designing the most important element

The most important element of this lehenga choli was border of lehenga on which names of bride and groom along with dates will have to be embosed.

She was not sure if it should be made in zardosi, beads or should it be embroidery or thread work.

We made following samples and she loved the zardosi one.

This is going to take lot longer time because this has to be done by hands and its long manual work. As so much time was already spent in making samples and understanding requirements it was now time to accelerate making of the dress.

As days past pressure was building up and the client was getting anxious, we can understand it. But it takes time before things can start taking shape. We had now some images of borders to share with the client. She was so amazed and now she was relaxed and we can focus on our work 🙂

Border design of lehenga and dupatta

We had to make 7 meter borders for dupatta and 5.5 meter for skirt, 5.5 meter border with names and dates, belt for waist, 4.5 meter border for choli, and blouse.

Over 6 people were working on this, until blouse embellishments and borders are made, tailors can not stitch it.

It took 10 days to complete this work and 2 day to stitch it.

We were now relaxed and have little party because it will be delivered to customer 2 days before she expected.

And we were looking forward to hear feedback from her. We were sure to hear some good things 🙂
